I have always known and could feel how important truth is, recently I have come to know that in an even deeper way. Our family has attended two different churches in the last 5 years during some very big struggles in our country. Many times I left church feeling so angry and frustrated because what was happening in our country wasn’t even mentioned, or it was in a very vague, passive way that could be interpreted in whatever way a person chose depending on what news source they listen to. Many Bible believing Christians in our country claim that the church should not be involved politically but my eyes have been opened wide seeing what happens when we are not. Psalm 97:10 says that we are to hate evil. From what I’ve seen over the last 5 years, there has been abounding evil coming from and being pushed by our government. Calling our nation racist, confusing children about their sex, lying, blaming, calling what’s evil good and what’s good evil, the list goes on and on. I believe we got ourselves, Christians, into this predicament by not doing our part to speak truth, vote, and anything else we have the opportunity to do to help keep God and His ways at the head of things in America. We started going to a new church real close to where we live a week or two before Charlie Kirk was assassinated in front of the nation. I was fed up with our pastor not speaking about our leaders and elections and I had lost trust. We attended the new church and my family and I were blown away at this new pastor that spoke directly about some of the evils taking place around us and where our stance should be having a Biblical worldview as God’s people. I had craved this type of what I now call “direct truth” for so long that I immediately felt huge relief realizing I wasn’t crazy for feeling so angry and frustrated going to a church that glosses over direct truth with saying things that are true but could be interpreted however one chose to do so. Charlie Kirk spoke about pastors letting President Trump do the hard job of speaking truth and doing what he could to change things and the first time I heard this articulated, I knew he had put to words exactly how I had felt for these last number of years. I could feel the truth as he spoke them and knew I was feeling the way I did for a reason. Within the next week or two Charlie Kirk was assassinated and I was so hesitant to go to church that Sunday after, being afraid that horrible event would not be talked about. After attending the two previous churches, this is what I had come to expect sadly. We went and boy was I ever pleased with the direct truth that addressed what happened by the pastor and even playing the video tribute to Charlie put out by our White House! It had been so long since I trusted a pastor to actually speak plain truth and not just refer vaguely to a person or event. I was so refreshed to hear bold, specific, truth spoken. I knew from how I felt that this is what pleases the Lord. We have attended this church ever since and have been learning so much about how political the Bible actually is and how if we, as God’s people, do not get involved and help elect our leaders and shape the culture around us Satan surely will. Politics affects policy, which directly affects people’s lives. This means that loving our neighbor should be done by voting for candidates that have policy aligning the closest with the Bible.
Christmas School 2022
I chose to do a whole month for a specific Christmas curriculum this year for the month of December. We chose to do a campfire curriculums Christmas unit study, they had a couple choices to choose from. It’s now well into January, and when I look back on the month of December and ask my kids what they thought I am pleasantly surprised. The curriculum we did involved a story of Christmas based on the shepherds experiences. It also had activities you could choose from and core subjects of math, science, and language to go with each day’s program. Not only did my kids enjoy what we were learning, but I Iearned a lot along with them! We learned about sound waves, how glass is made, and how to bake some new Christmas treats. I have the most fulfilled experience homeschooling my kids when we can learn new things alongside each other and I felt that month of Christmas school was a great example of this. Obviously, the day to day learning of math, English, and other subjects isn’t going to be something that we do together or that I learn new things from all the time, but if I can take moments of learning with my kids and provide more opportunities for all of us to learn something new, I’ll be happy! There is something very powerful and memorable about learning and growing alongside each other that I want to take full enjoyment from. Because of the Christmas school experience we had, I plan to implement more unit study learning from other units the campfire curriculums offer. What about you? Do you have any experiences with your homeschooling journey where you’ve experienced something similar? I’d love to hear you’re thoughts and experiences!
